Mac OS X, 10.7.2 Lion

1//1/2012 Author's Note: I have been using Lion on my Macbook pro for several weeks with no real issues to speak of. I think Lion is ready, and it is the future. {"It is what it is"} . Give me a call or an email if you have any questions.

Happy New Year!

In July (7/20/2011), Apple introduced Lion, Macintosh Operating System X, 10.7.

Many are jumping on the band wagon, and going in for the kill... I would recommend holding off for a bit.

I want to pass on some information to help you decide if moving to Lion right now is for you and/or your company.

There are quite a few things that will probably cause some folks some issues, some very serious, if they decide to do it now.

Apple Mail has quite a few bugs going in. If you rely on Apple Mail for your main email, you might want to wait a bit.

Many Apple and third party applications will no longer function under Lion, and many are still trying to catch up.

More and more "Gotchas" are cropping up all the time, http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=lion+gotchas&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8. Click on the link for further research.

The first thing you should do is check the requirements of your computer, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion.

Then go to the Apple Menu. Choose "About this Mac", and click on More Info.

In the left hand column, look down on the left and click once on Applications. (Might take a minute to load.)

Then, in the corresponding pane on the right, click on the tab labeled "Kind".

Any application with the "Kind" listed as "PowerPC", will not function under Lion. You will no longer have use of those applications unless the developers upgrades the application.

I hope this helps those of you who are thinking of upgrading. If you have any questions, give me a call. If I am not in the office, I always return all calls as soon as possible.
